Improve Your Move
Ever heard of ‘physical literacy’? Basically, it’s helping children develop the skills and confidence to be able to do things like running, jumping, throwing and catching.
Working specifically with children aged 3 – 8, the KIDDO program has been scientifically designed to do just that – and to help nurture a love of physical activity that will last a lifetime.
Kiddo and Tennis Factory
Tennis Factory have partnered with the University of Western Australia’s physical literacy program, KIDDO.
We see this program, developed by world leading sports scientists and academics, as the perfect fit for us to use to introduce the basic fundamental movement skills (FMS) we need our children to have in place first before developing their tennis skills.
For more info on the KIDDO program visit the KIDDO website.
What does the program involve?
We are offering the KIDDO program at our tennis clubs, and at local schools for children in Kindy to Year 2. The program focuses on developing two fundamental movement skills such as running, jumping, catching and throwing each term. Children are placed in small groups participating in activities to develop their fundamental movement skills and build their confidence, so that they not only have a great time with plenty of fun, but that they also develop the knowledge and motivation that they need to remain active for life.
One of the things we love about the KIDDO program is how easy it is for us to provide a pdf report to parents on how their children are going in the following 5 fundamental movement skills:
The report uses instant percentile rankings. Parents and our coaches can measure how each child is progressing using data from thousands of 3-8 year olds across Australia to compare how they are going compared to others of their age. This data helps us with planning and can identify problem areas that a child may need to work on.
How will this fit into Tennis Factory’s programs?
From term 4, 2020, we will be rolling out the KIDDO program at our tennis clubs, local schools and child care centres. The KIDDO program will be a precursor to Tennis Factory’s Hot Shots Blue program (formerly SportStars), providing kids with the skills, motivation, confidence and knowledge to be physically active and to enjoy being physically active.
We suggest that any child under the age of 5 years of age who hasn’t done any tennis or is just getting started in sports, starts in the KIDDO program before enrolling in Hot Shots Blue.
Schools Sports Programs
We will be looking to roll out the KIDDO program in local primary schools for children in kindergarten to year 2 (3-8 years of age). For teachers interested in having Tennis Factory come out to your school please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
